# Developer Portal
Start building with LottieFiles — quickstarts, APIs, SDKs, access and credentials, and machine-readable resources for AI agents.

Use this page to find the right starting point for building with LottieFiles: a quickstart, an API or SDK, and how access works for each. Much of the platform needs no account. The dotLottie players are open source and the Docs API is public.

## Quickstarts

## APIs

| API                 | Use it to                                                                | Access                                          | Reference                            |
| :------------------ | :----------------------------------------------------------------------- | :---------------------------------------------- | :----------------------------------- |
| **Docs API** | Search this documentation and read any page as Markdown | Public, no authentication | [OpenAPI description](/openapi.json) |
| **LottieFiles MCP** | Work with your workspaces, projects, and animations from an AI assistant | OAuth 2.1 sign-in with your LottieFiles account | [LottieFiles MCP](/en/platform/mcp) |
| **GraphQL API** | Query and manage LottieFiles data programmatically | Reference documentation is coming soon | [Platform overview](/en/platform) |

Until the GraphQL reference is published, the LottieFiles MCP server can explore the schema and draft queries for you.

### Call the Docs API

The Docs API is public and read-only. It allows cross-origin requests, so you can call it from servers, scripts, and browsers.

```bash
# Search the documentation
curl "https://docs.lottiefiles.com/api/search?q=dotlottie+react"
# Read a page as Markdown, with its title and metadata
curl "https://docs.lottiefiles.com/api/page?path=/en/platform/mcp"
```

Every page is also available as plain Markdown. Append `.md` to its URL, for example `https://docs.lottiefiles.com/en/platform/mcp.md`. Errors use RFC 9457 problem details with a stable `code`. The [OpenAPI description](/openapi.json) has the full contract.

## Access and Credentials

None of these services use static API keys:

- **Docs API and dotLottie players**: no account needed. The players are open source under the MIT license.
- **LottieFiles MCP**: your MCP client signs you in with OAuth 2.1 and PKCE the first time it connects, then refreshes tokens automatically. The connection acts with your account's permissions under the `mcp:full` scope. To review or revoke access, see [Auth, Security, and FAQ](/en/platform/mcp/security).
- **Lottie Creator MCP**: you enable it from Lottie Creator, and it runs locally. See [Lottie Creator MCP](/en/creator/13_ai-tools/lottie-creator-mcp).

## Test Safely

- The Docs API only reads public documentation, so calls have no side effects.
- The MCP discovery tools (`operations_list`, `schema_search`, and `schema_details`) run against a cached schema snapshot and never touch your data. Only `graphql_execute` reaches your account, so ask your assistant to show you a mutation before it runs one.
- For automated agents, connect a separate LottieFiles account whose workspace membership matches what the agent should touch.

## SDKs and Libraries

| Library                | What it does                                                                                   | Docs                                         |
| :--------------------- | :--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | :------------------------------------------- |
| **dotLottie players** | Play Lottie and dotLottie animations on the web, iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native, and more | [dotLottie Players](/en/runtimes) |
| **Creator Plugin API** | Read and change the Lottie Creator scene from a plugin | [Creator API](/en/creator-api) |
| **Creator Plugins UI** | Build plugin interfaces with the Creator Plugins component library | [UI library](/en/creator-plugins/ui-library) |

| **relottie** | Parse, analyze, and transform Lottie JSON with plugins | [relottie](/en/tools/relottie) |

Plugins for Figma, After Effects, Canva, Framer, Webflow, and VS Code are listed under [Integrations](/en/integrations).

## For AI Agents

Agents and the tools that build them can read these machine-readable resources:

| Resource               | URL                                                                            |
| :--------------------- | :----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Documentation index    | [`/llms.txt`](/llms.txt)                                                       |
| Docs API (OpenAPI 3.1) | [`/openapi.json`](/openapi.json)                                               |
| API catalog (RFC 9727) | [`/.well-known/api-catalog`](/.well-known/api-catalog)                         |
| AI catalog             | [`/.well-known/ai-catalog.json`](/.well-known/ai-catalog.json)                 |
| MCP server card        | [`/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json`](/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json)       |
| Agent skills           | [`/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json`](/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) |
| Authentication guide   | [`/auth.md`](/auth.md)                                                         |

In browsers that support [WebMCP](https://webmachinelearning.github.io/webmcp/), every documentation page also exposes `search_documentation`, `get_docs_page`, and `open_docs_page` tools to browser agents.
