# Import
The Import tab brings external animation files into your After Effects composition. Use it when the source isn't in the LottieFiles library (Explore) or your team workspace — for example, a Lottie shared by a client or a `.svg` icon you want to animate.

This chapter is the counterpart to [Explore](/en/integrations/after-effects/02_explore). Explore pulls from the LottieFiles library; Import pulls from your local disk or a URL.

## What you can import

- `.lottie` — dotLottie containers (single or multi-animation)
- `.json` — Lottie JSON
- `.svg` — vector graphics (converted to animatable shape layers in AE)
