Start building with LottieFiles — quickstarts, APIs, SDKs, access and credentials, and machine-readable resources for AI agents.

Use this page to find the right starting point for building with LottieFiles: a quickstart, an API or SDK, and how access works for each. Much of the platform needs no account. The dotLottie players are open source and the Docs API is public.

Quickstarts

Play an animation on the web

Add a dotLottie player to a web page, a framework app, or a native mobile app.

Connect an AI assistant

Give Claude, Cursor, or VS Code access to your LottieFiles workspaces through the hosted MCP server.

Build a Creator plugin

Extend Lottie Creator with your own tools and automations.

Animate with the Creator MCP

Let an AI assistant build and edit animations inside Lottie Creator.

Until the GraphQL reference is published, the LottieFiles MCP server can explore the schema and draft queries for you.

Call the Docs API

The Docs API is public and read-only. It allows cross-origin requests, so you can call it from servers, scripts, and browsers.

# Search the documentation
curl "https://docs.lottiefiles.com/api/search?q=dotlottie+react"

# Read a page as Markdown, with its title and metadata
curl "https://docs.lottiefiles.com/api/page?path=/en/platform/mcp"

Every page is also available as plain Markdown. Append .md to its URL, for example https://docs.lottiefiles.com/en/platform/mcp.md. Errors use RFC 9457 problem details with a stable code. The OpenAPI description has the full contract.

Access and Credentials

None of these services use static API keys:

  • Docs API and dotLottie players: no account needed. The players are open source under the MIT license.

  • LottieFiles MCP: your MCP client signs you in with OAuth 2.1 and PKCE the first time it connects, then refreshes tokens automatically. The connection acts with your account's permissions under the mcp:full scope. To review or revoke access, see Auth, Security, and FAQ.

  • Lottie Creator MCP: you enable it from Lottie Creator, and it runs locally. See Lottie Creator MCP.

Test Safely

  • The Docs API only reads public documentation, so calls have no side effects.

  • The MCP discovery tools (operations_list, schema_search, and schema_details) run against a cached schema snapshot and never touch your data. Only graphql_execute reaches your account, so ask your assistant to show you a mutation before it runs one.

  • For automated agents, connect a separate LottieFiles account whose workspace membership matches what the agent should touch.

For AI Agents

Agents and the tools that build them can read these machine-readable resources:

ResourceURL
Documentation index/llms.txt
Docs API (OpenAPI 3.1)/openapi.json
API catalog (RFC 9727)/.well-known/api-catalog
AI catalog/.well-known/ai-catalog.json
MCP server card/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json
Agent skills/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json
Authentication guide/auth.md

In browsers that support WebMCP, every documentation page also exposes search_documentation, get_docs_page, and open_docs_page tools to browser agents.
