Anchor Point

The anchor point (pivot point) is a crucial concept for controlling how layers transform.

What is the Anchor Point?

The anchor point controls:

  • Center of rotation - Where layer rotates around
  • Center of scale - Where layer scales from
  • Transform origin - Reference point for all transforms

Seeing the Anchor Point

  • Appears as crosshair icon on selected layer
  • Usually centered by default
  • Can be moved to any position

Moving the Anchor Point

Using Anchor Point Tool:

  1. Select layer

  2. Hold Y (temporary anchor point mode)

  3. Drag anchor point to new position

Using Properties:

  1. Select layer

  2. Find Anchor Point in property panel

Effect on Transforms:

  • Moving anchor point doesn't move the layer
  • Changes where rotation and scale originate
