Adding a local animation

Upload a local Lottie file to Workspace before inserting it into Framer.

The Framer plugin does not provide a general local file picker. Upload the source to LottieFiles Workspace first, then insert the Workspace version. This keeps the file reviewable and gives the team one source to approve.

Upload the source

  1. Open the intended workspace and project in the LottieFiles web app.

  2. Upload the local Lottie JSON (.json) or dotLottie (.lottie) file.

  3. Give the file a recognizable name and place it in the correct project or folder.

  4. Wait for processing to finish and check the web preview.

  5. Return to Framer and reopen or refresh the LottieFiles plugin.

Insert from Workspace

Open Workspace, navigate to the uploaded file, and inspect it before insertion. If the source contains several animations, themes, or state machines, select the intended runtime state first.

Keep local changes traceable

When the local source changes, upload it as a new Workspace version or replace it through the team's normal version workflow. Do not silently insert an unrelated local copy into Framer and treat it as the same approved source.

The Framer component does not update automatically after a new Workspace version is uploaded. See Updating a published animation.
