Adding a local animation

Upload a local Lottie file to Workspace before adding it to Webflow.

The Webflow app does not provide a general local file picker. Upload the source to LottieFiles Workspace first, then insert the Workspace version. This keeps the file reviewable and gives the team one source to approve.

Upload the source

  1. Open the intended workspace and project in the LottieFiles web app.

  2. Upload the local Lottie JSON (.json) or dotLottie (.lottie) file.

  3. Give the file a recognizable name and place it in the correct project or folder.

  4. Wait for processing to finish and check the web preview.

  5. Return to Webflow and relaunch or refresh the LottieFiles app.

Add it from Workspace

Open Workspace, navigate to the uploaded file, and inspect it before insertion. If the source contains multiple animations, themes, or state machines, select the intended runtime state first.

Keep local changes traceable

When the local source changes, upload it as a new Workspace version or replace it through the team's normal version workflow. Do not add an unrelated local copy to Webflow and treat it as the same approved source.

The Webflow element does not update automatically after a new Workspace version is uploaded. See Updating a published animation.
